From Autumn To Ashes delivers a landmark release in the post-hardcore genre with The Fiction We Live. Released in 2004 via Vagrant Records and produced by GGGarth, this sophomore effort captures the Long Island quintet transitioning into a more structured, well-oiled machine. The album famously balances the "photonic" screams of lead vocalist Benjamin Perri with the melodic, Neil Peart-influenced percussive assault and clean vocals of drummer Francis Mark.
Expanding beyond the raw metalcore of their debut, this album introduces dynamic switchback tempo changes and a more melodic rock sensibility without sacrificing intensity. From the frantic driving riffs of "The After Dinner Payback" to the standout bass lines and chilling vocal delivery of "No Trivia," the band demonstrates a sophisticated evolution in songwriting. The record also features "Autumn's Monologue," a collaborative track with Melanie Wills that continues the band’s tradition of haunting, emotive storytelling.
