Experience the raw, intimate power of the stage with Simply Broadway, a masterful collection by the legendary Brian Stokes Mitchell. Dubbed "The Last Leading Man" by the New York Times, Mitchell delivers a breathtaking performance that captures the soul of Broadway classics through a "simple" and minimalist lens.
Recorded in 2009, this album is a rare feat of technical and artistic purity. Captured in a single room with his longtime collaborator, virtuoso pianist Tedd Firth, the recording eschews modern digital tuning, overdubs, and audio separation. The result is a spontaneous, "without a net" interaction between two artists that mirrors the gold standard of mid-20th-century recordings.
Key Features:
- Authentic Performance: Captured live with "one mic bleeding into the other" to preserve the natural resonance of the room.
- Expert Arrangements: Features unique, creative reimaginings of Broadway staples produced by Mitchell himself.
- Elite Artistry: Showcases the synergistic chemistry between Mitchell’s powerhouse vocals and Tedd Firth’s sensitive, world-class piano accompaniment.
Whether you are a lifelong musical theater devotee or a lover of pure vocal jazz, Simply Broadway offers a dignified and sophisticated listening experience that emphasizes the importance of songcraft and humanity.
