The Beatles Featuring Tony Sheridan & Guests – In The Beginning (Polydor, 2000 CD)
Step back into the smoke-filled clubs of Hamburg with In The Beginning, a definitive remastered compilation of The Beatles' earliest professional recordings. Released by Polydor, this 2000 CD edition captures the raw energy of the "Beat Era" when the group served as the backing band for British singer-songwriter Tony Sheridan.
Essential for completists and rock historians, this collection showcases the formative sound of the Fab Four before they achieved global superstardom. The tracklist features foundational recordings and remastered classics, including:
- "My Bonnie" – The hit that first put them on the map.
- "Ain’t She Sweet" – Featuring a rare early vocal lead by John Lennon.
- "Cry for a Shadow" – A unique instrumental penned by Harrison and Lennon.
While often regarded by critics as a fascinating archival artifact rather than a traditional studio album, its historical value is undeniable. This set provides a clean, polished look at the 1960s beat-rock that fueled German dance floors and launched the greatest career in music history. Whether you are a musicologist or a dedicated collector, this release is a vital piece of the Beatles’ discography puzzle.
