Spiritualized® – The Abbey Road EP (Arista, 1998)
Released in 1998, The Abbey Road EP offers a unique, stripped-back glimpse into the world of Jason Pierce (aka J. Spaceman) following the success of his space-rock masterpiece, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, this EP captures the band in a looser, more improvisational light, shifting away from their signature "studio perfectionism" toward a raw, live-in-the-studio feel.
Key Highlights:
- "Come Together": A relaxed, alternative rendition of the fan favorite that trades the album's intensity for a more casual atmosphere.
- "Broken Heart": This version features a sweeping, "funereal" backdrop provided by the London Community Gospel Choir, the Brixton Community Choir, and full string and horn sections.
- Collector's Item: Originally issued on CD and 7" formats, this Arista release is an essential "curio" for hardcore fans looking to explore the band’s discography beyond the standard studio albums.
Perfect for Spiritualized completists and collectors of 90s indie-rock history, this EP presents evocative, gospel-tinged reimagined versions of two of the band’s most iconic tracks.
