Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder of The Lumineers, steps into the spotlight with his debut solo instrumental album, Piano Piano. Thirteen years in the making, the album represents a deeply personal collection of compositions that explore the emotional spectrum—from sorrow to elation—without uttering a single word.
The record is defined by its unique sonic textures, featuring a deliberate balance between pristine Steinway recordings and the raw, imperfect character of his cherished upright piano, famously dubbed "firewood" by his tuner. Fraites weaves these intimate piano melodies together with lush accompaniment from violinists, cellists, and Macedonia’s forty-piece Fame’s Orchestra.
Key Highlights:
- Dual Meaning: The title reflects the Italian translation for both the instrument and the phrase "little by little," nodding to the album's long gestation period.
- Atmospheric Depth: Featuring cinematic soundscapes and personal field recordings, including samples of his own family.
- Standout Tracks: Includes the optimistic Tokyo, the wintery, space-conscious Chilly, and the rhythmically dynamic Nearsighted.
- Authentic Folk Roots: Delivers the wistful, melody-driven energy familiar to fans of his work with The Lumineers while showcasing a new, sophisticated compositional style.
Piano Piano is a delicate, cinematic journey that invites listeners into a private world of reflection, beautifully captured and produced alongside David Baron.
