Released in 2006 on Rough Trade, Never Said Goodbye serves as the second solo studio album from Welsh singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews. Following her folk-leaning debut Cockahoop, this expansive record showcases a more complex, punchier sound that solidified its place in the charts, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Independent Albums chart.
Produced by Matthews alongside Ben Elkins and Stuart Sikes, the album captures a sense of city ennui and personal longing. It features a diverse musical palette ranging from easy-going beats to the "larynx gymnastics" that define Matthews' signature vocal style. Highlights include the lead single "Open Roads", the standout opener "Streets of New York", and "Morning Sunshine", co-written with Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals.
