Experience a pivotal moment in krautrock history with this reissue of Can’s Soundtracks. Originally recorded between 1969 and 1970, this essential album serves as a crucial bridge between the band’s experimental origins and the sophisticated, groundbreaking sound of their later masterpieces.
Serving as a collection of music written for various art-house films, Soundtracks captures the band in a state of evolution. The release marks a significant transition in the group’s vocal identity, featuring both Malcolm Mooney’s charismatic, abstract vocal contortions and the debut of the legendary Damo Suzuki, whose haunting, enigmatic presence would become a hallmark of the band's golden era.
Key Highlights:
- Masterful Rhythm Section: The album is anchored by the inimitable, tight drumming of Jaki Liebezeit and the foundational bass work of Holger Czukay.
- Essential Listening: Features the 15-minute epic "Mother Sky"—a swirling, chugging masterpiece of mood and momentum.
- Art-Rock Precision: Includes inspired keyboard work from Irmin Schmidt on tracks like "Deadlock," highlighting the band’s unique blend of improvisation and structure.
This reissue is an essential addition for fans of avant-garde rock and those looking to explore the roots of one of music's most influential cult bands.
