Blancmange returns with Wanderlust, their tenth studio album and a masterful addition to their legendary synth-pop discography. Released in 2018 via Blanc Check Records, the album finds frontman Neil Arthur collaborating once again with acclaimed producer Benge. Together, they have crafted a record that balances the adventurous spirit of the 1980s with a dark, dystopian electronic pulse that feels startlingly contemporary.
Critics have hailed Wanderlust as some of Arthur’s finest work, with The Spill Magazine describing it as "a brilliant album" that explores a "dark and at times frightening" sonic landscape. Despite its stark, industrial textures, the album retains the band’s signature pop sensibility. Tracks like "Distant Storm" and "Not a Priority" (featuring backing vocals by Hannah Peel) standout as potential synth-pop classics, while the title track closes the journey on an optimistic, analogue-driven note.
Key Highlights:
- Chart Success: Reached No. 22 on the UK Independent Albums Chart.
- Production: Co-produced and mixed by Benge (Wrangler/Creep Show).
- Sound: A sophisticated blend of sparse electronics, semi-robotic vocals, and "dystopian" lyrical themes.
- Essential Tracks: "Distant Storm," "In Your Room," "Not a Priority," and "Wanderlust."
Perfect for fans of classic British electronic music and modern industrial synth-pop alike, this CD edition is a must-have for collectors of the Blancmange catalogue.
