Experience the dynamic duality of Ben Harper's seventh studio release, Both Sides of the Gun (2006, Virgin Records). Produced by Harper himself, this ambitious double-disc collection captures the full spectrum of his musical artistry, split between intimate acoustic craftsmanship and hard-hitting, politically charged rock.
The album showcases two distinct sides of Harper's signature sound across its two discs:
- The Acoustic Disc: Features warm, string-driven ballads and folk arrangements, highlighted by the soulful opener "Morning Yearning," the Nick Drake-influenced "More Than Sorry," and the tender closer "Happy Everafter in Your Eyes."
- The Rock Disc: Delivers uptempo energy rooted in funk, hard rock, and gospel, driven by tracks like "Better Way," the title track, and the biting political critique "Black Rain."
From gentle, confessional acoustic folk to raw, electric grooves, this CD release is an essential snapshot of Ben Harper’s versatility and passion as a songwriter and performer.
