Armand Van Helden – Armand (Armed Records, 2001)
Experience the definitive era of a house music icon. Released in 2001 on his own Armed Records, this self-titled box set and compilation serves as a high-octane retrospective of Armand Van Helden’s most influential work from the late 1990s through the turn of the millennium. Documenting his transition from a New York "best-kept secret" to a global chart-topper, this collection is an essential entry point for both collectors and newcomers to the house scene.
The tracklist highlights Van Helden’s unmatched ability to blend classic house grooves with hip-hop beats and rock-infused experimentation. Key highlights include:
- "U Don’t Know Me" (feat. Duane Harden): The UK #1 smash hit that defined the late-90s house sound.
- "Koochy": The high-energy club anthem famously driven by a sample of Gary Numan’s "Cars."
- Genre-Bending Cuts: Selected tracks from acclaimed releases like 2 Future 4 U, Killing Puritans, and Gandhi Khan.
Whether you are looking for soulful vocal house or the "savage" energy of his more confrontational club tracks, this compilation showcases the genre-defying range of one of dance music’s true legends.
