Tom Waits – Small Change (Remastered Edition)
Rediscover the grit and storytelling genius of Tom Waits with this 2018 Anti- label reissue of his seminal 1976 album, Small Change. Newly remastered for high-fidelity clarity, this release invites you back into the smoky, late-night world of Waits’ most evocative Asylum-era recording.
A masterclass in character study, Small Change features Waits at the height of his powers, blending jazz-inflected instrumentation—piano, upright bass, saxophone, and lush string sections—with his signature gravelly, beatnik-inspired delivery. Drawing comparisons to the literary works of Charles Bukowski and Raymond Chandler, the album serves as a collection of short stories populated by barhopping misanthropes, street-talking barkers, and tragic romantic wanderers.
Key Highlights:- Stellar Production: Features the legendary drummer Shelly Manne, providing a perfect jazz-pop backdrop.
- Iconic Tracks: Includes the legendary sales-barker scat classic "Step Right Up" and the poignant "Bad Liver and a Broken Heart."
- Critical Acclaim: Widely regarded as a career-defining record, boasting stellar reviews from Pitchfork, Mojo, and Uncut.
Whether you are a longtime fan or discovering these stories for the first time, this remastered edition is an essential addition to any collection of classic American songcraft.
