Steve Roach’s Quiet Music is a foundational touchstone of American ambient music. Originally commissioned for a healing arts program and recorded between 1983 and 1986, this landmark trilogy was first released as a series of cassettes. In 2011, Projekt finally "did it right" with this 3-CD compilation, The Original 3-Hour Collection, marking the first time the complete series was available together in its intended format.
The collection showcases Roach’s early mastery of synthesizers and electric piano, accompanied by delicate flute contributions from Will Morris. The release is structured across three distinct discs:
- Disc 1 (QM1): Features the expansive hour-long piece "The Green Place, Parts 1 and 2," blending synths and flute with immersive field recordings of streams and birds.
- Discs 2 & 3 (QM2 & QM3): Track the evolution of Roach’s signature style, moving into the deeper atmospheric territories that would define his legendary career.
Presented in a handsome digipak, this 3-CD set preserves the original master recordings of a work often cited alongside Structures from Silence and Dreamtime Return as essential listening for fans of electronic, space, and meditation music.
