Melanie Martinez returns with K-12, the highly anticipated sophomore follow-up to her debut album, Cry Baby. This 2019 release from Atlantic Records and producer Michael Keenan is an ambitious concept album that expands the universe of her signature character, "Cry Baby," through a vibrant melting pot of alternative pop, dark pop, and art pop.
Experience the full creative vision of Martinez with this special CD/DVD edition. The release includes the 13-track studio album alongside the full-length musical film written and directed by Martinez herself. Using her trademark pastel aesthetic as a backdrop, the project fearlessly explores the complexities of youth—tackling themes of bullying, body image, and the struggle to belong with lyrics rich in metaphor and social commentary.
Key Tracks Include:
- "Detention": A standout track featuring a catchy chorus and infectious, fun beat.
- "Lunchbox Friends": An emotional exploration of friendship and authenticity.
- "High School Sweethearts": A fan-favorite highlighting Martinez’s unique vocal style.
- "Strawberry Shortcake": A provocative examination of the modern teenage experience.
Whether you are a longtime fan or new to her "pastel alt-pop" style, K-12 stands as a definitive, 9.5/10-rated triumph in modern indie-pop music.
