Courtney Barnett – The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas
Before she became an indie rock powerhouse, Courtney Barnett introduced the world to her signature wit and storytelling with The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas. Originally released in 2013, this compilation masterfully combines two of her early EPs—How to Carve a Carrot into a Rose and I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris—into one essential collection.
Barnett’s sound here is characterized by a "jangly" and "rumpled" indie-rock aesthetic, blending psych-smeared guitar wails with the introspective, sharp-tongued lyricism that would define her career. Whether she is delving into anti-folk territory or exploring late-'60s, psych-leaning melodies, the album balances cynical indifference with intense emotional awareness.
Key Highlights:
- Genre: Indie Rock, Anti-folk, Psychedelia
- Standout Tracks: Includes the breakout hit "Avant Gardener," as well as fan favorites "History Eraser" and "David."
- Production: A raw, evocative look at Barnett’s early songcraft, featuring accompaniment by The Courtney Barnetts.
- Significance: A definitive introduction to one of modern music's most unique songwriting voices.
Experience the project that started it all—a must-have for any Courtney Barnett fan or collector of modern indie essentials.
