Bashy – Catch Me If You Can (2009)
Released in 2009, Catch Me If You Can is the official debut studio album from British rapper and actor Ashley Thomas, better known as Bashy. Following his rise through the UK underground garage and grime scene, this record captures the raw, hyperactive energy that defined his early mixtapes.
The album offers a dynamic snapshot of the UK music scene of the era, balancing dark, gritty grime cuts with radio-friendly R&B sensibilities. It reflects Bashy’s unique journey, from his upbringing in London to his ascent as a multifaceted artist.
Key Highlights:
- Nomination: Recognized for its impact, the album was nominated for the 2009 MOBO Award for Album of the Year.
- Standout Tracks: Includes the atmospheric, jazzy opener "Before Before," the jungle-influenced "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?", and the collaboration with N-Dubz, "Travel The World."
- Significance: A pivotal release that served as the foundation for Bashy’s acclaimed career, preceding his later work like the celebrated 2024 album Being Poor is Expensive.
Whether you're a long-time fan of UK grime or a collector of essential British hip-hop, Catch Me If You Can remains a notable artifact in the evolution of Bashy’s artistry.
