Drums and Wires, the seminal 1979 third album from XTC, remains a high-water mark of the post-punk and New Wave era. Recorded by the "dream team" of producer Steve Lillywhite and engineer Hugh Padgham, this release marked the debut of guitarist Dave Gregory, evolving the band’s sound into something more sophisticated and melodic while retaining their signature nervous energy.
This definitive Ape House/Panegyric reissue features a masterful 2014 stereo remix by Steven Wilson. Approved by the band, the mix provides a "sonic gloss" that brings the album into the 21st century without sacrificing its historic integrity. Fans will rediscover essentials like the Top 40 hit "Making Plans for Nigel" and the infectious non-album single "Life Begins at the Hop."
Key Features:
- Expert Remastering: A fresh stereo mix by Steven Wilson from the original multi-track studio master tapes.
- Rarities & Extras: Includes B-sides, demos, and rarities, many previously unreleased.
- Sonic Revelations: Features corrected speeds for tracks like "That is the Way" and "Officer Blue," which were historically slowed down.
- Historical Context: Liner notes and input from band leaders Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding.
Whether you are a lifelong fan or a newcomer looking for the ideal entry point into XTC’s discography, this reissue offers the most immersive listening experience of an art-pop classic.
