Witherfall – A Prelude To Sorrow (Century Media Records, 2018)
Following the tragic passing of their original drummer, Adam Sagan, Witherfall channeled their grief into their sophomore masterpiece, A Prelude To Sorrow. This album serves as a deeply personal and dark exploration of mortality, loss, and the scarcity of time. Much like the album title’s hidden acronym—a tribute to Adam Paul Sagan—the record is a profound, albeit intense, journey through the complexities of mourning.
Musically, Witherfall continues to refine their signature "dark melodic metal," blending aggressive, heavy instrumentation with technical progressive metal compositions. Joseph Michael’s expressive, multifaceted vocals perfectly complement Jake Dreyer’s inventive and technical guitar work, creating an atmosphere that is at once foreboding, desperate, and melancholic.
Key Highlights:
- Genre: Progressive Metal / Dark Melodic Metal
- Standout Tracks: "We Are Nothing," "Vintage," and "Moment of Silence."
- For Fans Of: Complex, emotionally driven progressive metal with technical precision.
Whether it is the somber, acoustic-led beauty of the closing "Epilogue" or the heavy, riff-driven intensity of the "Sagan Suite," A Prelude To Sorrow is a powerful testament to the band’s resilience and creative growth.
