Released in 2012 via End of the Light Records, Les Fleurs Du Mal represents one of the most daring and inventive chapters in the extensive catalog of Swedish symphonic metal pioneers Therion. Conceptually framed around the decadence of Charles Baudelaire’s legendary poetry collection, the album presents a full-length collection of classic French pop songs reimagined through Therion's signature symphonic rock and metal style.
Departing from conventional doom and epic metal tropes, this release showcases an upbeat, theatrical, and highly entertaining sound. Performed entirely in French, the arrangements feature exceptional vocal harmonies from Lori Lewis and Thomas Vikström, supported by crisp guitar leads, dynamic rhythm work, and orchestral flourishes.
Standout Tracks:
- "Poupée De Cire, Poupée De Son" – A driving, metal-infused take on the French classic.
- "Initials B.B." – A rhythmic highlight featuring an engaging orchestral and vocal mix.
- "En Alabama" – A darker, gothic-tinged track driven by standout guitar work.
- "Une Fleur Dans Le Cœur" – A melodic piece showcasing the band's classic symphonic traits.
