The Sisters Of Mercy – First And Last And Always is a seminal gothic rock masterpiece and one of the most defining debut albums of the 1980s. Built upon mechanical drum rhythms, sharp jangle-angled guitars, and Andrew Eldritch’s iconic, deep graveyard vocals, this record captured a haunting, post-apocalyptic atmosphere that permanently set the benchmark for the goth and post-punk genres.
Balancing introspective gloom with compelling, dark energy, the album captures a distinct mid-80s Cold War zeitgeist. From the claustrophobic dread of the opening track to anthemic, driving club favorites, its hypnotic allure remains unequalled.
