Released in 2016, the self-titled debut from The Ditties is a masterclass in guitar-powered indie-pop. This self-released CDr captured the attention of critics upon its arrival, earning a prestigious A- grade from Goldmine Magazine for its infectious energy and sharp songwriting.
Sonically, the album sits comfortably alongside power-pop heavyweights, drawing frequent and favorable comparisons to Teenage Fanclub. The record balances "deceptively cheery" melodies with self-deprecating wit and anthemic choruses, making it a must-have for fans of jangly, guitar-driven rock.
Key Highlights:
- "Pull My String": A sublime, standout track featuring Klingensmith’s lone songwriting credit and heavy Teenage Fanclub influence.
- "She Called Me to Say": A bright, hook-filled melody that masks deeper lyrical layers.
- "The Cool Kid": A self-deprecating highlight tucked into the heart of the disc.
- "Short Term Memory": A loud and impactful track that sets the tone for the "good show" delivered by these chaps.
Whether you are a collector of rare 2010s indie-pop or a seeker of "achingly beautiful" arrangements, The Ditties is a rewarding listen that proves some of the best music is often found off the beaten path.
