Steven Wilson – Insurgentes (Transmission Recordings, 2023 Reissue)
Experience the definitive edition of Insurgentes, the seminal debut solo album from progressive visionary Steven Wilson. Originally released in 2008 and now meticulously reissued via Transmission Recordings, this 2023 CD edition is housed in a premium 8-page digi-pack, offering fans a fresh encounter with the record that redefined Wilson’s career outside of Porcupine Tree.
A moody and atmospheric masterpiece, the album immediately establishes its brooding tone with the opener "Harmony Korine," featuring melancholic vocals set against hypnotic, melodic guitar loops. Sonically, the record is a "conceptual tour de force," blending lush progressive arrangements and delicate acoustic textures with heavier, riff-driven passages.
Thematic and deeply introspective, Insurgentes explores concepts of digital disconnection and human awe, featuring lyrical contributions from XTC’s Andy Partridge. From alien encounters to cinematic soundscapes, this reissue provides pristine clarity for an album widely considered to be some of Wilson’s most challenging and rewarding work.
