Released in 2000, Black Market Music marks a pivotal evolution in Placebo's storied discography. Following their celebrated work on Without You I’m Nothing, the band’s third studio album saw Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal pushing their signature tense rock sound into bold, experimental territory by integrating hip-hop and disco influences.
Produced by Paul Corkett, the album reflects a period of heightened creative ambition, featuring collaborations with Justin Warfield and clever sampling work. In the UK, the album solidified the band’s commercial success, spawning hit singles such as the infectious "Taste in Men" and the defiant "Slave to the Wage."
This essential release captures the band at a unique crossroads of alternative rock and electronic experimentation. The North American edition further expands the experience, featuring standout additions like the band’s powerful cover of Depeche Mode’s "I Feel You" and their collaborative re-recording of "Without You I'm Nothing" featuring the legendary David Bowie.
