Capture the raw energy of the glam rock revolution with Manhattan Mayhem, a definitive 2003 compilation from the legendary New York Dolls. Released via Jungle Records, this collection serves as a powerful retrospective of the band that bridged the gap between 1950s rock roots and the impending explosion of punk rock.
Formed in 1971, the Dolls are widely regarded as American protopunk pioneers. Their influence on the music industry is monumental, paving the way for iconic acts like Aerosmith, Kiss, and Guns N’ Roses. This release highlights the band's "madcap and raunchy" best—blending the swagger of Mick Jagger with high-octane power chords and a signature Manhattan campiness.
Key tracks and highlights:
- "Personality Crisis" – The band's quintessential anthem showcasing their ahead-of-its-time originality.
- "Trash" – A gritty, blues-infused staple featuring the twin guitar thunder of Johnny Thunders and Syl Sylvain.
- "Jet Boy" – High-energy rock and roll at its most influential.
- "Stranded In The Jungle" – A standout cover that perfectly captures the band’s trashy, mutant-blues aesthetic.
Whether you are a longtime fan or a collector of glam and punk history, Manhattan Mayhem is an essential overview of the band that redefined rock and roll attitude.
