Julia Bardo – Bauhaus, L'Appartamento (Wichita Recordings, 2021)
Bauhaus, L'Appartamento serves as the cathartic, full-length debut from Italian-born singer-songwriter Julia Bardo. Written and recorded during the isolation of the Manchester COVID-19 lockdowns, the album is a deeply personal chronicle of the artist's journey, exploring themes of loneliness, self-doubt, cultural identity, and unconditional love.
Produced by Euan Hinshelwood (Younghusband) and recorded on tape, the album showcases Bardo’s flair for melancholy indie-pop infused with a retro, 1960s-shaded folk-rock temperament. The record weaves together intimate, diaristic songwriting with adventurous sonic layering, featuring everything from gauzy, resonant guitars to off-kilter distortions—even incorporating spoken-word passages in Bardo's native Italian.
Key Highlights:
- Cohesive Narrative: A compelling 10-track collection designed to be experienced in its entirety.
- Standout Tracks: Includes the bold opener “The Most,” the evocative “Impossible,” and the poignant closing track, “Goodbye Tomorrow.”
- Authentic Artistry: A brave, self-affirming work that transforms personal trauma and solitude into an impactful listening experience.
This CD edition is a must-have for fans of emotive, introspective indie rock. Experience a striking debut from an artist boldly putting her emotions on display.
