Experience the raw, improvisational energy that launched one of Aotearoa’s most iconic acts. Fat Freddy’s Drop: Live at The Matterhorn is more than just a debut—it is a cornerstone of the band's history, capturing their signature "seven-headed soul monster" sound in its purest, most expansive form.
Recorded in 2001, this legendary release defies convention. Eschewing the standard EP or album structure, the band delivered four sprawling, open-ended tracks that journey through deep soul, dub, and jazz-infused landscapes. With tracks ranging from 12 to over 21 minutes in length, the album offers a masterclass in organic groove and genre-bending musicality.
Key Features:
- Original 2001 Live Sessions: Features four long-form tracks showcasing the band’s early mastery of dub and soul.
- Legendary Tracklist: Includes the epic "Runnin'" (21:29), "Rain" (18:06), "No Parking" (18:37), and "Bounce" (12:00).
- A Cultural Milestone: A rare, organic artifact of a band that grew into a global force through high-quality musicianship and legendary live performances.
This 2006 Kartel reissue is an essential addition for fans looking to own the starting point of Fat Freddy’s Drop’s incredible journey.
