Released in 2012, Glad Rag Doll marks a bold and creative departure for Grammy-winning jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall. Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, this eleventh studio album breathes new life into jazz tunes from the 1920s and 1930s—a collection inspired by Krall's own family archives of 78-rpm records.
Rather than a traditional jazz record, Glad Rag Doll serves as a compelling fusion of jazz, blues, and Americana. Burnett’s signature production style strips away unnecessary layers, favoring a raw, intimate sound where acoustic and electric guitars replace orchestral arrangements, allowing Krall’s evocative vocals to take center stage.
Album Highlights:
- Authentic Inspiration: A deep dive into vintage jazz standards curated from personal family history.
- Artistic Evolution: A daring shift in sound produced by T Bone Burnett, emphasizing a gritty, Americana-influenced jazz aesthetic.
- Critical Acclaim: Praised for its thoughtful, unadorned production that highlights the natural beauty of Krall's performance.
Whether you are a longtime fan or a new listener, this album offers a unique, atmospheric listening experience that revisits the roots of American music. Add this essential 2012 release to your collection today.
